About SIM-WAMO

SIM WAMO (West Africa Missions Office) is part of the global SIM family, a mission organization with over 4,000 workers serving in more than 70 countries. At SIM, we’re committed to making Christ known in places where He is least known, and we do this through a variety of ministries: church planting, discipleship, leadership development, and mission mobilization.

As the regional office serving West Africa, SIM WAMO exists to help churches and believers in this region respond to God’s call to the nations. We work with individuals, churches, and mission agencies to identify, prepare, and send missionaries-both within Africa and beyond. Our focus is on communities that have little or no access to the gospel, including parts of North Africa, the Sahel, and the Arab world.

Since launching, WAMO has helped send missionaries from West Africa to some of these hard-to-reach places. In 2018, we hosted the Senders Gathering Consultation in Abidjan, where more than 150 mission agencies came together to share ideas, build partnerships, and strengthen each other’s efforts. Events like this have helped shape a growing movement of missions from Africa to the world.

We also provide training, mentorship, and support for people exploring their role in missions, whether as students, professionals, or full-time ministry workers. And we continue to work with churches to build strong support systems for those they send, including prayer and financial backing.

Our goal is simple: to see more people from West Africa participating meaningfully in God’s mission, and more communities around the world reached with the good news of Jesus.

Core Values

We are part of Christ’s church and together we plant, nurture and equip churches.

We are people of love. We humbly offer compassionate, holistic service and eternal hope, through the knowledge of Jesus Christ.

We live a life of integrity in obedience to God and in relationship with each other as we listen, learn, grow, and innovate together under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Core Values

We are people of prayer. We trust in our faithful God and affirm the truth of the Bible.

We are one in Christ. We embrace, and are strengthened by, the international, interdenominational and multi-ethnic diversity of His church.

We cross barriers to fulfil God’s global, urgent and unfinished mission.

SIM-WAMO

Statement of Faith

There is one God who exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is the almighty Creator, Saviour, and Judge who governs all things according to His sovereign will and is accomplishing His purposes in creation and in the Church to His glory.

God the Father is the source of all that is good. He initiates creation and redemption, which He accomplishes through His Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ, both fully God and fully man, entered history as Saviour of the world. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and lived an exemplary, sinless life in perfect submission to the Father and in loving relationships with others. He died on a cross, rose bodily and ascended to heaven where He is advocate for His people and is exalted as Lord of all.

The Holy Spirit makes the work of Christ effective to sinners, giving spiritual life and placing them into the Church. He indwells all believers, empowers them to love, serve, witness and obey God, equips them with gifts and transforms them to be increasingly like Christ.

The Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is God’s written Word, revealing for all peoples His character and purposes. It is the final authority in all matters relating to belief and behaviour. The Holy Spirit moved the human authors of the Bible so that what they wrote is inspired, fully reliable, and without error in all it affirms.

Christ’s sacrificial death, in which He bore the punishment due to sinners, is the only and all-sufficient basis of God’s provision of salvation for all people of every culture and age, expressing His love and satisfying His justice. By God’s grace the repentant sinner, through trusting alone in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, is put right with God, adopted by the Father into His family and receives eternal life.

Humanity is the climax of God’s earthly creation, bearing His image, designed for relationship with Him, and being the object of His redeeming love. All people have sinned. This results in guilt, death, and alienation from God as well as the defacing of every aspect of human nature. People are unable to save themselves from sin’s penalty and power and from Satan’s dominion.

The universal Church is made up of all who have been born of the Spirit. It finds local expression in communities of believers called by God to worship, fellowship, proclaim the Gospel, and make disciples among all peoples, reflect God’s character, engage in works of compassion, contend for truth and justice and celebrate baptism and communion.

The holy angels are personal spirit beings who glorify God, serve Him, and minister to His people. Satan is a spiritual being who was created by God but fell through sin. He, along with other evil spirits, is the enemy of God and humanity, has been defeated by the work of Christ, is subject to God’s authority and faces eternal condemnation.

10. The Future: The Lord Jesus Christ will visibly return to the earth in glory and accomplish the final triumph over evil. God will make everything new. The dead will be raised and judged. Unbelievers will suffer eternal punishment in separation from God; believers will enter into a life of eternal joy in fellowship with God, glorifying Him forever.

Knowing Christ Making him known
West Africa Focused
Mission

A church-centred approach

It’s the responsibility of the local church to fulfil the Great Commission, sharing the gospel locally and globally. Many churches don’t have the capacity to support workers overseas, so SIM provides an experienced and knowledgeable service to make sure mission workers are well looked after and can focus on their ministry.

What We Do

Mobilize West African Believers for Missions

We inspire, identify, and prepare individuals, churches, and communities across West Africa to actively engage in cross-cultural missions—especially among unreached people groups.

Train and Equip Missionaries

We provide contextualized missions training, mentorship, and leadership development through programs like Engage West Africa (EWA) to equip workers for effective, long-term service.

Partner with Churches and Mission Agencies

We build strong partnerships with churches and mission-minded organizations to send, support, and care for missionaries through shared vision, prayer, and resources.

Sustain Missionary Work Through Prayer and Support Networks

We develop and strengthen networks of intercessors, donors, and volunteers to uphold the physical, spiritual, and financial wellbeing of missionaries and their families.
